Cosmetic dentistry refers to the procedures that are focused on improving the appearance of teeth rather than their health. While cosmetic dentistry may not improve the health of your teeth, they have various other benefits, including aiding regular cleanings and boosting the patient’s confidence.
Two widely used cosmetic dentistry procedures include:
Teeth are naturally of a whitish-yellow color. As we get older, this color tends to get darker due to various reasons, such as smoking, use of tea, coffee, red wine, or use of certain medications, etc. Moreover, the accumulation of tartar can stain teeth as well.
Teeth whitening is a procedure which lightens the color of teeth and make them appear healthy and clean. First, Dr. Brenda Garrison or Dr. Sara Podoll will evaluate the condition of your mouth to tell you if you’re suitable for teeth whitening.
The dental team will then put a gel or a rubber shield in order to protect your gums. A whitening product is then applied to your teeth in a special tray that fits in the mouth like a mouthguard.
The whitening product is usually composed of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, known for their bleaching properties.

These are custom-made tooth-like shells made of porcelain that attach to the surface of the teeth to improve their appearance. Usually, minor injuries or conditions that chip or break the teeth can be made to change their appearance through these veneers. In this regard, teeth that are stained, worn down, misaligned, broken or gapped, can be improved by attaching veneers.
The first step involved in administering veneers is evaluating the oral condition of the patient and determining the best possible treatment for them. If the dentists at Highland/Fort Family Dental believe that veneers are the best way forward for you, they will examine your teeth structure and take an impression of it so that veneers can be made according to them.
Next, the dentist will prepare your teeth by cleaning, polishing and etching them so that the veneers can be bonded to them easily. Usually, dental cement is used to attach veneers to teeth. A special light is used to cure the cement and the dentist makes sure that your bite and jaw are working fine with your new veneers. Dr. Brenda Garrison and Dr. Sara Podoll place your health and comfort first and will make sure you get the best treatment possible according to your needs.
